I see so many leaders reach a certain level of success and then their inner saboteur and critic comes out to play. It’s one thing to step into an executive level position, but it’s a whole other thing to fully own and embody it. When you reach a certain level in your career, it’s no longer just about being great at what you do (that’s a given). You need to be able to command respect from your peers, enroll people in your ideas and have them be heard instead of interrupted or dismissed. You need to be able to build trust on your team so they can be as innovative as possible and have hard accountability conversations that leave people empowered. A large portion of your success will be due to your ability to powerfully lead and communicate with your team.
It’s very common for executives to internalize all of the intense pressure of their job and it often causes them to experience fear, anxiety and stress on an almost daily basis. As a partner in the consulting firm, Evolution, I’ve had the privilege of working with startup companies like Slack, Scopely, Dropbox and dozens of others. And I have enjoyed leading and consulting with marketing teams at several entertainment technology companies and television networks.
